The waters in front of Tamarindo are the primary fishing grounds in Costa Rica for the northwest Pacific coast sport fishing fleet. Tamarindo itself faces a major shore-ward sweep of the continental shelf and the 100 and 1000 fathom lines. For this reason our run time to deep, blue-water fishing (10-30 min.) is less than that of other locations.

A combination of great inshore and offshore options makes Tamarindo a favorite destination for fishing vacations. From November through March in Tamarindo, half day fishing charters look for roosterfish, jacks, mackerel, tuna, dorado, snapper and other species close to the shore. Full day charters run about an hour to the south to fish offshore looking for sailfish, tuna, dorado and blue, black and striped marlin.
Apri through October in Tamarindo is known as the green season, and fishing charters typically run only 15 minutes to the fishing grounds. Half day charters spend time either offshore or inshore as desired, while full day charters typically spend most of the day offshore. The weather is generally calm, allowing a wide range of exploration either inshore or offshore.

Most species found here are available year ‘round, although at varying times, depending on a variety of conditions such as current, water temperature, water color, wind, etc. Thus, there is no “season” for any particular fish. We typically have excellent fishing throughout the year.
