Central Tamarindo: walk to everything
The heart of town runs along the main beach road. Here you are a short walk from surf schools, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and nightlife. The waves in front of town are gentle enough for beginners, which makes it the classic choice for a first visit.
Best for: first-time visitors, surfers, groups of friends and anyone who does not want to rent a car.
Keep in mind: it is the busiest and liveliest part of town, especially in high season.

Playa Langosta: quiet, upscale and close to town
Playa Langosta is the beach just south of Tamarindo, separated by a rocky point and a small river mouth. It is more residential, with gated condo complexes, tide pools and some of the best sunsets in the area, yet it is only about 5 minutes by car from the center of Tamarindo. The hills above Tamarindo: views and privacy
The hillside neighborhoods above town, such as Tamarindo Hills and Valle Escondido, offer ocean or jungle views, more space and more privacy. Many homes have private pools and are just a few minutes’ drive from the beach.
Best for: couples looking for a romantic retreat, families who want a private pool, and guests who will have a car.
Keep in mind: the roads are steep, so walking to town is not practical.
Hacienda Pinilla: gated resort living
About 20 minutes south of Tamarindo, Hacienda Pinilla is a large gated community with a golf course, a beach club and access to quieter beaches such as Playa Avellanas. It is ideal if you want resort-style amenities with the space of a private villa.
Best for: golfers, families and groups that want security and amenities.

Playa Flamingo and the beaches to the north
